One man was dead after a confrontation at an apartment complex with an off-duty Homeland Security officer on New Year’s Eve in Northridge, police said.
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department responded to the 17701 block of Roscoe Boulevard and Amestoy Avenue at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday after a report of a man allegedly armed with a rifle who was firing shots in the air.
An off-duty officer investigated after hearing the gunfire and, at some point, the suspect was shot, the LAPD told NBC4 Investigates. The person died at the scene.
Details about what led up to the shooting were not immediately available.
NBCLA has reached out to the DHS for comment. LAPD and DHS officers remained at the scene Thursday morning.
