CLOVIS, Calif. (FOX26) — A Clovis man is behind bars after police say he fired a rifle multiple times in a residential neighborhood while intoxicated.

It happened just after midnight on New Year’s Day in the area of Shaw and Fowler Avenues.

Police located the suspect in the front yard of a home on the 1600 block of Burgan, where he was seen holding a rifle.

As officers took cover and approached, the suspect noticed them and briefly pointed the rifle in their direction.

Once officers identified themselves, the man became cooperative and dropped the weapon.

The suspect and two other adults were detained without incident.

No shots were fired by officers, and no injuries were reported.

Investigators later determined all three individuals were intoxicated.

The suspect was identified as 24-year-old Tyler Anson of Clovis.

He was booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges of felony assault with a firearm on a peace officer and discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner.

The rifle Anson was holding was loaded, with a round chambered.

Officers also located multiple additional firearms inside the home, all of which were seized as evidence.
