Police shot and killed a suspect during what officers are calling a physical altercation in which two officers were injured in San Pedro, the Los Angeles Police Department said Thursday, Jan. 1.
Officers from the LAPD’s Harbor Division were called at 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, to an apartment in the 500 block of W. 37th Street and South Pacific Avenue regarding a domestic violence and restraining order violation, according to the LAPD.
When they arrived, officers encountered the suspect and when they tried to detain him, the suspect was shot when he confronted them, police said.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics took the suspect to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Two officers were also taken to the hospital for injuries sustained during the altercation, the LAPD said.
No other officers or community members were injured.
