Patrons of the San Diego Public Library can earn prizes this month through the “Every Picture Tells a Story” Winter Reading Challenge.
The challenge opened on Jan. 1 and runs through Jan. 31. Prizes are available while supplies last through Feb. 10.
“Opening a book is the best way to keep sharp during the winter break,” said San Diego Public Library Director Misty Jones. “But this year’s Winter Reading Challenge offers much more than that. With art-themed events and programs for all ages, everyone can use the season to enrich their lives and continue learning.”
The challenge is available at all San Diego Public Library locations, including Rancho Bernardo at 17110 Bernardo Center Drive and Carmel Mountain Ranch at 12095 World Trade Drive.
It is open to all ages, from pre-readers through adults, who can earn challenge completion prizes for reading a combination of five books, for five hours or completing challenge activities.
Activities include attending a library program and exploring the stories of a photo. More examples are on the reading log.
Participants can sign up at sandiego.gov/WinterReading or by picking up a paper log at any city library branch.
The finisher prizes are an achievement ribbon (ages 0-11), one free pass for the Museum of Us (all ages), one free pass for the Mingei Museum (adults) and a free five-piece boneless wings from WingStop (teens-adults).
Participants can also earn up to five digital raffle tickets for an opportunity to win movie tickets and art kits in a grand prize drawing.
