HURON, Calif. (FOX26) — The body of 34-year-old Francisco Madera was found in the California Aqueduct.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office recovered Madera’s body from the water, near Goldenrod and Gale Ave., on New Year’s Eve.

Madera was last seen on December 13th in the Hanford-Armona area after heading home, but never arrived.

His vehicle was found on December 15th, crashed into a tree near the Aqueduct at Mitchell Ave. and Hwy. 145.

The sheriff’s office says shoe tracks showed he may have gone into the canal.

The department’s dive team searched the canal at that time, but he was not found.

On Christmas Eve, family, friends, and volunteers gathered to search and share flyers throughout the community.

Then on New Year’s Eve, somebody spotted a body floating about 5 miles south of the search area. It was determined to be Madera.

No foul play is suspected.
