Taft man dead after car crashes into tree

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A Taft man died New Year’s Day when his car crashed into a tree, according to California Highway Patrol.

The 39-year-old man, whose name hasn’t been released, was pronounced dead at the scene in the area of South 10th and B streets, officers said.

Officers called to the scene around 8:30 a.m. determined the car was traveling east on B Street and drove past the South 10th Street intersection, continuing east, leaving the road and hitting the tree.

Whether the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol is under investigation.
