California woman facing felony charges in Leeds credit card fraud case

LEEDS, Ala. (WBRC) – A California woman is awaiting extradition to Alabama to face a number of felony charges related to fraudulent credit/debit card use.

On Dec. 15, a victim reported to Leeds PD that their credit/debit card had been fraudulently charged multiple times at various retailers in the state totaling up to more than $12,000.

Police in Leeds began their investigation. Detectives with their Special Investigations Unit identified the suspect as 48-year-old Yuan Liu of San Gabriel, California.

Detectives said they learned Liu was now in Mississippi. On the evening of Dec. 16, Liu was taken into custody with assistance from law enforcement in Mississippi.

Authorities said when she was taken into custody, thousands of dollars of merchandise were found in her vehicle.

Police said Liu had been fraudulently charging credit/debit cards across the United States at high-end retailers.

“I am very impressed with our investigators and their daily pursuit of justice for victim’s of criminal activity,” said Leeds Police Chief Paul Irwin. “The activity of this person will be linked to criminal activity across our country and when we have loyal and dedicated law enforcement professionals working together, these people can be punished and removed from our communities.”

As of the time this article was published, Liu was in custody in Mississippi awaiting extradition back to Alabama to face a number of felony charges in multiple jurisdictions.

Authorities say further charges are expected.
