Police are investigating a series of vandalism incidents in a California neighborhood, where a man has repeatedly hurled large rocks through windows of homes and cars, leaving residents alarmed and frustrated.
The latest attack occurred on October 8 when a cantaloupe-sized rock shattered the front window of a duplex near College Avenue in Oakland, according to Ring camera footage shared with the Chronicle.
It was the sixth time since December that the same house has been targeted, including three incidents in September.
Neighbors say the vandal has struck multiple homes and vehicles along several blocks between Telegraph and Claremont Avenues in recent weeks.
At least two other houses on Vicente Street have boarded-up windows.
Flyers with a photo of the suspected ‘rock thrower’ now hang on telephone poles, urging residents to contact police.
Oakland police confirmed the incidents are under investigation but said no arrests have been made.
‘No additional information is available at this time,’ a department spokesperson told the Chronicle.
He’s hurled rocks 6X at windows of home on Ayala near Oakland’s Rockridge & targeted other homes. “He’s terrorized the entire neighborhood,” victim tells me. “The rocks are heavy enough that someone could be seriously injured or killed.” One rock size of melon @oaklandpoliceca pic.twitter.com/QtfXxZl52s

Residents described the attacks as random and unsettling.
‘Everybody had the same story – it was a rock or a brick thrown through a car or a house window, nothing was taken,’ said Rachel Budge, whose property was hit twice.
Her living room window was smashed in late September, and on October 6, a rock shattered her car window while she was putting her daughter to bed.
Security footage has captured the same man repeatedly wearing red sweatpants during the attacks, a detail that has deepened the mystery around his motive.
‘There’s no pattern of who he’s targeting,’ Budge said. ‘None of us have ever seen him before except on our cameras.’
