CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Kutztown University men’s basketball team played its second game of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division back-to-back set on Saturday afternoon, falling to the California (Pa.) Vulcans 91-68 at the Convocation Center.

The Golden Bears (2-7, 0-5 PSAC) fell against another strong interdivision opponent before it begins PSAC East play, as it was outmatched against the Vulcans (9-4, 6-0 PSAC), who maintained their spotless conference record as they sit atop a competitive PSAC West Division.

Kutztown held a slight advantage through a back-and-forth first ten minutes, thanks to the offensive efforts of guards Jalen Bryant (Edgewood, Md./John Carroll) and Yahmir Satterfield (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter), who combined to score the team’s first 21 points. The Vulcans countered in the stretch that followed, going on a 13-3 run across four minutes before Satterfield shut the opposition down with six points in the final two minutes of the half to turn the tide in Kutztown’s favor.

California held control of the second half from start to finish, stretching the margin by ten points in the second half to secure its eighth straight victory.

Satterfield and Bryant each scored 20 points for the Maroon and Gold, the latter of whom recorded his second straight 20-point game and sixth of the season. Tobi Ogunbare (Dublin, Ireland/Lawrence (Mass.)) pulled down nine rebounds, while Omari Banks (Middletown, Del./The Phelps School (Pa.)) tallied nine points, five rebounds and a pair of steals in defeat.

The Vulcans were led by Jordyn Buchanan with 22 points, Brayden Reynolds with 11 assists, and Bryson Lucas with nine rebounds and nine assists.

Kutztown led the game in three-point marksmanship (10-of-21, 47.6 percent), largely thanks to Satterfield and Bryant’s nine combined three-point baskets.

The Golden Bears return home to Keystone Arena for a set of games this next week, with the Cheyney Wolves facing off in a non-conference battle on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at 7 p.m., followed by a Saturday meeting against the Lock Haven Bald Eagles on Saturday, Jan. 10, at 3 p.m.
