FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A Venezuelan man living in Fresno is sharing his perspective as protesters gathered on the corner of Blackstone and Nees Avenues on Saturday, following the United States’ early morning military operation in Venezuela.

Eduardo Crem offered insight on the events unfolding in his home country, telling Action News a change in leadership has been long overdue, “We’ve been going through this for so long, we just wanted.. freedom, man. These people were ruthless killers, based on bad political ideology.”

His perspective clashed with those of the Fresno-based activist groups who organized the gathering.

More than 50 people, including members of Peace Fresno and People for Palestine, waved their signs in the air, many of them reading “Hands off Venezuela.”

One protester, Leni Reeves, showed Action News messages from a friend living in Caracas, the Venezuelan capital.

“I think people have the right to run their own country, to run their own lives, to do things their own way,” says Reeves. “They shouldn’t be threatened, they shouldn’t be attacked.”

The group comes out every weekend and started protesting nearly three years ago, when the conflict between Israel and Palestine first kicked off.

Organizers say Saturday’s focus shifted to Venezuela after learning about the attacks.

“When we found out about the illegal invasion, or attack, on Venezuela, the kidnapping of Maudro and his wife, we started contacting other groups,” says President of Peace Fresno, Dan Yaseen.

But Crema says the crowd is blurring the lines between the two situations, “To see these people that have never been anywhere else, conflate the Gaza issue, with the Venezuela issue, with everything else, I’m sorry, it’s asinine, it’s moronic.”
