Three people died in an East Oakland shooting early Saturday, police said – days after gunfire claimed two other lives in the city.
Saturday’s shooting, which police learned of after it was recorded on ShotSpotter, took place shortly after 3 a.m. on International Boulevard near 85th Avenue.
Officers arrived at the scene and found three people who had been shot. Two victims died at the scene, and the third died at a local hospital, the Oakland Police Department said.
Homicide detectives are investigating the killings. Authorities have not released identities of the victims until they can notify victims’ relatives. More information about the victims, such as their ages or genders, was not immediately available.
The shootings – the third, fourth and fifth homicides in Oakland since the start of 2026 – come after a marked reduction in killings in the Bay Area in 2025.
Oakland’s 57 homicides last year were the city’s fewest since 1967, while the 28 that occurred in San Francisco were the fewest such killings since 1954, the Chronicle previously reported.
Two men died in separate shootings on New Year’s Day.
Oakland police ask anyone with information about the killings to call their homicide section at 510-238-3821 or the confidential tip line at 238-7950. Videos of the incident can be emailed to cidvideos@oaklandca.gov.
