Highway 168 rockslide causes crash, CHP urges caution during storms

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) — Early morning travelers woke up to a rockslide that happened overnight.

CHP shared images of debris covering parts of the four lanes of Highway 168, creating a highly dangerous situation for drivers.

A 4×4 truck traveling downhill hit the rocks, damaging the suspension.

Minutes later, a Honda CR-V also struck the rocks and rolled over. The driver was seriously injured.

Unfortunately, there was little to no opportunity for the drivers to avoid the rocks in the roadway because conditions were dark and there was a curve in the roadway.

California Highway Patrol is reminding drivers to slow down in mountain areas, especially during storms and to always report any road hazards.

Caltrans crews responded quickly to the rockslide and cleared the area.
