BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man who was reportedly threatening family members at a south Bakersfield home was shot and killed by responding officers Friday night, according to police.
The Bakersfield Police Department said officers were called to a home in the 3700 block of El Alisal Street at around 10:11 p.m. for a welfare check of a man who was involved in a disturbance at a home. The department said the man was threatening family members.
Officials said officers contacted the man but he “was not compliant” and was armed with a handgun. The department did not further describe what happened leading up to officers shooting the man.
A statement from police did not say if the man fired the handgun or if he threatened officers.
The man was shot and pronounced dead at the scene. He will be identified by the Kern County Coroner’s Office at a later time.
On home surveillance video shared with 17 News, multiple gunshots can be heard from the incident.
The department said it would release body-worn camera video of the incident “as the investigation allows.”
