What to know about NBA on NBC’s Mavericks vs. Kings game on Tuesday, January 6
Among a plethora of juicy NBA storylines, perhaps none remain constantly cemented in our noodle quite like our obsession with rookie phenom Cooper Flagg. And with good reason. The former Duke standout and former No. 1 NBA draft pick is having no problem living up to the hype in his inaugural NBA year, exceeding expectations as he etches a consistent stat line of nearly 20 points, 6.4 boards and 4 assists per game this season, all while shooting 48.6% from the field. You know who posted similar stats in his rookie year? A guy named LeBron James; so the 19-year-old unicorn’s already in elite company.

For the Kings, finding some consistency on the hardwoods still remains an elusive concept for the boys in NorCal. Despite veteran guards Dennis Schröder and Russell Westbrook helping to steer the ship, injuries have left the Kings defensively vulnerable and prevented Sacramento from harnessing any lasting offensive rhythm in what’s looking more and more like a stacked Western Conference.
That said, the Kings did get the better of the Mavs 113-107 when the two first met this season on December 27. With Anthony Davis likely to miss multiple games, though, it’ll be up to Flagg to unleash his true dominance if they hope to avenge their previous loss.
