The Arizona Cardinals are moving on from Jonathan Gannon.
Arizona made the third move of Black Monday, firing the 43-year-old head coach after three seasons with the club. The Cardinals confirmed the decision one day after losing their ninth straight game to end the year against the Los Angeles Rams.
General manager Monti Ossenfort will keep his job, becoming a key part of the next coaching search.
Gannon went 15-36 during his tenure, with a best record of 8-9 during the 2024 season. The Cardinals fell to 3-14 this season, completely collapsing down the stretch as Gannon’s defense finished bottom-10 in passing, rushing and points allowed.
The former Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator stuck with Jacoby Brissett over Kyler Murray at quarterback down the stretch in 2025. While the offense looked better with the veteran under center, that didn’t translate to many victories.
The Cardinals haven’t made the playoffs since 2021, and they suddenly enter an offseason full of unknowns. Murray’s future with the team is murky, though his contract makes a trade or release difficult. Arizona holds the No. 3 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Along with the Cardinals, there are now six teams in need of a new head coach: the Tennessee Titans, New York Giants, Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns and Las Vegas Raiders.
