BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A short delay was granted Monday in the trial of a man accused of driving drunk when his pickup reversed at high speed into multiple pedestrians at the 2023 Bakersfield Christmas Parade.

Judge John W. Lua granted a defense request to postpone the trial to Thursday. A courtroom hasn’t been selected.

Alan Lewis Booth, 74, is charged with four counts of assault with a deadly weapon, two DUI-related counts and resisting arrest.

Several people were injured, one seriously, in the Dec. 7, 2023, crash.

According to police reports, Booth had a blood-alcohol content of 0.28%, more than three times the legal limit.

He was released on bail but arrested months later on suspicion of driving on a suspended license with a BAC of 0.24%, reports say. Misdemeanor charges were filed in that case and he’s been held without bail since then.
