The Detroit Lions’ season may be over, but that hasn’t stopped a Rochester bakery from capturing its players’ iconic celebrations in the form of cake.

Home Bakery on Monday unveiled a life-sized cake of Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs striking his “Spider-Man x Superman” pose, and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown hurdling over him. The St. Brown part of the cake is positioned with his arm appearing to go through the front window of the bakery.

The pose was from Gibbs’ Oct. 20 touchdown celebration against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It’s Home Bakery’s second life-sized Detroit Lions cake: last season, it baked a cake of St. Brown’s headstand.

“(The pose) became an iconic moment for the season, much like the headstand did for the previous season. And we love things that challenge us creatively,” said bakery owner Heather Tocco.

Home Bakery doesn’t just do life-sized cakes of Lions players − Tocco said the bakery has also done cakes for the “Barbie Movie,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Wolverine” and “Deadpool.” The consistent production of life-sized cakes makes them “pretty well-known for over-the-top window displays,” said Tocco.

For the Gibbs and St. Brown cake, a team of 24 people spent about 400 hours, 65 pounds of fondant, eight cases of Kellogg’s Rice Krispies treats and four sheet cakes, Tocco said.

Tocco said the reaction to this year’s Lions cake has been “a little quieter” than last year because the team didn’t make the playoffs. But she said people have still reacted to it well, especially after the team’s Sunday victory over their division rival, the Chicago Bears.

“People are just happy showing their love for the Lions,” she said.

The bakery plans to keep the cake on display through the end of February, Tocco said.
