BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — The Bakersfield-Kern Regional Homeless Collaborative is seeking 500 volunteers to participate in the 2026 Point in Time Count (PIT), scheduled for January 28, 2026. The deadline to register is 5 p.m. this Friday, Jan. 9.

The PIT count will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 28, from 3:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., with training available both virtually and in person, allowing volunteers to choose their preferred method upon registration.

The annual PIT Count offers a snapshot of homelessness in Kern County. Results from the count are crucial for resource allocation and funding applications aimed at addressing homelessness in the community, said officials. Volunteers play a vital role in ensuring an accurate count by identifying and counting the number of unsheltered individuals experiencing homelessness. This includes those sleeping on streets, alleys, parks, encampments, or other areas not intended for human habitation.
