BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A man is dead following a high-speed rollover crash involving a Freightliner on Wednesday morning on Bear Mountain Boulevard and Wible Road, said CHP.

Officials said at around 9:12 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of Bear Mountain Boulevard and Wible Road for a report of a crash involving the two vehicles.

CHP’s investigation revealed that an unidentified man was driving a 2011 blue Honda CRV southbound on Wible Road at a high rate of speed, and approaching the stop sign at Bear Mountain Boulevard. At the same time, a 33-year-old Fresno man was driving a Freightliner westbound on Bear Mountain Boulevard at around 55 miles per hour.

As the driver of the Freightliner headed west, the driver of the Honda failed to stop at the stop sign and went through the intersection. The front end of the Honda crashed into the right side of the Freightliner’s semi-trailer. The momentum of the crash caused the semi-trailer and Honda to overturn, both resting across the east and westbound lanes of Bear Mountain Boulevard.
