Protestors gathered in Sacramento on Wednesday evening, standing in solidarity with Minneapolis, after an ICE agent shot and killed a 37-year-old woman there amid an immigration crackdown Wednesday.Renee Good has been identified as the victim. The 37-year-old woman was shot in front of a family member during a traffic stop in a snowy residential neighborhood south of downtown Minneapolis. In Sacramento Wednesday, hundreds called for justice for Good at two separate protests that later joined together as one. Outside the John Moss Federal Building, a few dozen protesters gathered, chanting for change. Protestors meet at this spot a few times a week, but protestors said this gathering carried more meaning due to the recent events in Minneapolis. “Nobody should be hurt the way that she was hurt,” Allen O’Brien said. “Nobody should be hurt the way that the people she was looking out for are hurt. And I think the best way to honor that is to do the same thing. To do the same thing as in hold ICE accountable.”Another protest organized by “NorCal Resist” took place at Fremont Park, where hundreds chanted, sang, and held up signs. “I’m out here because I’m in just total shock of what’s going on,” Tanya Homman said. “I think this is an extension of our grief for the family of Renee and, you know, the loved ones that are suffering in this moment. But it’s also a demonstration of solidarity to the greater movement,” Giselle Garcia with NorCal Resist said. The group from Fremont Park marched to the federal building to join the protestors already there.Once at the federal building, the protest began peacefully but escalated when a small group of demonstrators resorted to vandalism. KCRA 3 captured individuals wearing face coverings, burning a U.S. flag and forcing their way through a security gate of the John Moss Federal Building. Once inside the parking lot, rocks were thrown at parked vehicles and the building.Sacramento police officers were present, shutting down the street on N between 5th and 7th to prevent cars from driving through the protest area. They did not intervene during the vandalism but arrived afterward, with officers walking through the area where the gate was broken.See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel
