(FOX40.COM) — The Mayor of West Sacramento, Martha Guerrero, announced her campaign for California’s open 6th Congressional District on Thursday.

In her announcement, Guerrero said the following:
“I’m a proud mom and public servant with working-class roots, and I’ve dedicated my career to identifying and filling gaps in service for those in need, building opportunities, and delivering results that help people get ahead. I’ve done that as a licensed social worker, legislative advocate, and West Sacramento Mayor.
I’m running for Congress because the gaps between needs and service are growing wider as the Trump administration and Republican leaders in Congress put the wealthy and big corporations ahead of us and starve critical support programs of resources. I’ll put people first for a change.”
Guerrero has served as Mayor of West Sacramento for two terms. Prior to that, she was a council member and licensed social worker.
The announcement said that she is a mom seeking to run a people-first effort in the newly drawn, Democratic-leaning district. She said she aims to lower costs for working families and “push back on the extreme cuts and overreach of the Trump administration.”
Her announcement comes after Sacramento District Attorney, Thien Ho, announced his bid for the 6th Congressional seat in November.
