OAKLAND — An Oakland police officer fired their duty weapon while assisting an “outside agency” with an arrest on Tuesday, the department confirmed Thursday.

The officer, whose name hasn’t been released, discharged “a department issued firearm one time” around 10 a.m. Tuesday. No one was injured, but now the incident is under investigation by the department’s homicide division and internal affairs, police said.

The underlying investigation involved a suspected stolen vehicle located on the 800 block of 47th Avenue, a dead-end roadway near San Leandro Street and the railroad and BART tracks. One person was arrested, authorities said.

Police haven’t released the identity of the arrested person nor the underlying charges.

The officer who fired their gun has been placed on administrative leave, in accordance with the department’s policy for police shootings. Police taped off the neighborhood and spent several hours processing the scene, according to a nearby resident.
