 A short-lived police chase involving an SUV ended when the vehicle plowed into a fence and went down a small canyon in San Diego’s Hillcrest neighborhood Friday.

The chase began around 2:30 a.m. Friday when officers with the Coronado Police Department and concluded at a canyon on Brooks Avenue, where the SUV went down a slope of vegetation, according to the department.

It was unclear what prompted the pursuit, and police did not say whether the driver was injured.

The exact location where the pursuit started was not immediately available, and the reason for the attempted stop was not provided.
