An Oakland Avenue Reconstruction project in the village of Shorewood is scheduled to begin in February and be completed in December, according to a release from the village.It will take place between Capitol Drive and Glendale Avenue. According to Shorewood and the project managers, the pavement on Oakland Avenue has deteriorated, requiring it to be replaced. The village will also upgrade underground infrastructure by replacing water mains, laterals, sewers and any lead pipes.The newly constructed road will include curb extensions and enhanced bicycle accommodations. The village said it will remain the same width.Also, rectangular rapid flash beacons will be installed at Elmdale Court and Glendale Avenue to improve pedestrian safety. They are also going to replace and modify RRFBs at Jarvis Street. The southbound right turn lane at Metro Market will also be removed.All traffic signals and street lighting will be upgraded.Additional bus shelters at Kenmore Place will also be installed.Construction work will mostly take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Construction on the weekend or overnight hours might occur under special circumstances. During construction, crews will maintain one lane of traffic in both directions whenever possible. Some construction may cause short-term closures of traffic in one direction.
