FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — PRO-PT Physical Therapy is marking a milestone.

The company opened its 20th location off Fowler Avenue and East Kings Canyon Road in southeast Fresno.

“When people attend physical therapy two or three times a week, that’s actually a lot of travel, especially if they have to travel across town,” said Todd Martin, the president of PRO-PT Physical Therapy. “Particularly here in Fresno, where travel can be up to 20 minutes at a time.”

President Todd Martin adds it’s about bringing care closer and convenient care for people. The new location means more options for specialized treatment for the neighborhood.

“By opening a clinic like this, we can actually increase availability for people and their treatment,” said Martin.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in California, there were more than 24,000 physical therapists in 2023. The clinic is to have at least five providers working at the southeast Fresno location.

CEO David Harris says there is a significant need for physical therapy.

“Only about 10% – 12% of the population that actually need physical therapy are receiving it,” said Harris.

In its first week, the new location is already seeing at least 20 patients, but expects to see even more as time goes on.

PRO-PT Physical Therapy sees patients of all ages, offering treatments for the spine, back, knees and different parts of the body. Harris tells Action News that physical therapy is more than just stretches or hitting the gym.

“It’s how to do it properly,” said Harris. “It’s when to do the right stretch, when to do the right exercise or activity.”

The ultimate goal is to improve overall functioning for the patient.

“To treat people while they are here to become independent when they leave us,” said Harris.
