San Diego State and UC San Diego’s women’s basketball teams remained undefeated in their respective conferences Saturday afternoon, while USD won its first conference game of the year.

Naomi Panganiban hit a contested 15-foot jumper with four seconds to play as the San Diego State women rallied from an 11-point, fourth-quarter deficit to score a 73-72 Mountain West victory at Utah State. The Aztecs improved to 12-3 overall and 6-0 in conference play with their eighth straight win.

Forward Erin Condron had a 22-point, 12-rebound double-double as UC San Diego (10-5, 5-0) defeated UC Riverside 70-54 at LionTree Arena. Guard Dominique Maxie added 17 points as the Tritons extended their winning streak to four straight games.

Panganiban scored 11 of her season-high 23 points in the fourth quarter as the Aztecs rallied from a 60-49 deficit with 8:04 to play. She hit 10 of 18 shots from the field and went 3-for-6 on 3-point attempts. The Aztecs outscored Utah State 26-16 in the fourth quarter after being outscored 24-11 in the third quarter.

Forward Kennedy Lee had 12 points and a team-leading seven rebounds and guard Nala Williams had 11 points and four assists.

“We found a way to win and that’s all that matters,” said Aztecs coach Stacie Terry-Hutson.

UCSD took the lead for good at 25-24 on Condron’s short jumper in the paint with 1:57 to play in the first half. The basket would trigger a 22-7 run over the next eight minutes. UCSD outscored UCR 50-16 in the paint.

All five Tritons starters played more than 30 minutes. UCSD’s pressure defense held the visitors to 32.3 percent (20-for-62) shooting from the floor and 9-for-36 on 3-point attempts. The Tritons were 31-for-63 from the field, with Condron going 11-for-20 from inside.

Hallie Rhodes scored 16 points and freshman guard Olivia Owens had six points, 11 rebounds, five steals and two key assists Saturday afternoon as USD (7-12, 1-5) snapped a five-game losing streak to defeat Pepperdine (10-7, 1-4) 54-51 at home, earning the Toreros their first West Coast Conference win.

Owens had a hand in each of USD’s final nine points as the Toreros finished the game on a 9-4 run.

Down 44-36 after three quarters, USD took a 48-47 lead on Rhodes’ three-pointer off a pass from Owens with a little over 5 minutes to play. Owens then secured a defensive rebound and fed Malia Tharpe for a layup to make it 50-47 inside of 4 minutes left.

With just over 2½ minutes to play, Owens scored a driving layup after making a steal to make it 52-49 then made a steal that led to two, game-clinching Tharpe free throws with 50 seconds to play.

Kylie Ray had 14 points for USD while Tharpe finished with eight.

Men’s basketball

Bol Dengdit scored 17 points and Leo Beath and Tom Beattie each scored 11 as the Tritons (13-4, 3-2) rallied in the second half to defeat UC Riverside (6-11, 1-4) 69-66 in Riverside. Beattie also had 11 rebounds.

• Pacific went on an 18-2 run to defeat USD 77-70 in Stockton. The Toreros (7-11, 2-4 West Coast Conference) led Pacific (12-7, 3-3) 60-47 on Vuk Boskovic’s 3-pointer in the second half. But USD scored only two points over the next 6 minutes and 29 seconds.

Guard Ty-Laur Johnson led the Toreros with 19 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Guard Adrian McIntyre had 11 points and seven rebounds. But USD was outrebounded 50-32 and Toreros forwards had only five rebounds for the entire game.

TJ Wainwright led Pacific with 25 points and 10 rebounds. UCSD transfer Justin Rochelin had 14 points and 13 rebounds.
