The Troy Lee Designs Red Bull Ducati team has released an updated on Justin Barcia following a scary crash on the opening lap of the 450 main event at the opening round of Monster Energy AMA Supercross Saturday night in Anaheim, CA.
On the opening lap, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Malcolm Stewart was unable to jump the triple and as he rolled over the third jump, Barcia, with nowhere to go, landed on Malcolm and violently crashed to the ground.
The race was red flagged as medics attended to both riders.
Per the team, Barcia “was conscious, coherent, answering questions, and talking to medical staff,” after the incident.
The team said they will release more information later this week:
“To see both our riders and two Ducatis battling it out in the heat race was very exciting and a proud moment for the Ducati brand,” said Josh Wisenor, the Troy Lee Designs Red Bull Ducati Factory Racing Team Manager. “Bam unfortunately got [tangled] up with Malcolm and had a big get off. Bam was conscious, coherent, answering questions, and talking to medical staff. He waved to the fans on their way out, so we’re taking the positives from that and will keep you posted as we learn more.”
Stewart suffered a dislocated left shoulder according to multiple reports and will have an MRI later this week to confirm if he sustained further damage.
We will release more information as it is known.
