One person was killed in a multi-vehicle crash involving a wrong-way driver in the Burbank area overnight, the California Highway Patrol said.
At 3:42 a.m. Sunday, law enforcement was notified of a wrong-way driver traveling south on the northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway in Sun Valley. Minutes later, officials received a call about a three-vehicle crash on the freeway in the Burbank area.
Officers learned the wrong-way driver crashed into another vehicle traveling north on the 5, disabling the car. Almost immediately after, a third driver struck that second vehicle, causing the third driver’s car to overturn.
The wrong-way driver was declared dead at the scene, CHP said. That individual’s name has not been released.
Police did not specify the injuries of the occupants in the other two vehicles.
Alcohol is considered to be a factor in the crash.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact CHP Officer Morales at 626-296-8100.
