After an 11-6 regular season, the Eagles have been eliminated from the playoffs after a shocking loss to the 49ers (12-5) at Lincoln Financial Field. Philadelphia entered as the only NFL team that repeated as a division winner in 2025. The Eagles have won NFC East crowns in three of the last four seasons (also 2022 and 2024).

Still, the Eagles have played with fire throughout this entire season, and Sunday night was no different. Nick Sirianni’s team had a strong offensive start but sputtered down the stretch, allowing a banged-up 49ers team decimated by injuries to hold a 23-19 lead with less than 3:00 minutes remaining in regulation.

After a first quarter that saw Philadelphia amass over 100 total yards, the Eagles only managed 119 yards and 6 points in the second half, ending what should be a one-and-done experiment with Kevin Patullo as the team’s offensive coordinator. Overall, the Eagles’ offense had 19 first downs, but were 5-16 on third downs, 3-5 on fourth downs, for 307 total yards, 167 yards passing, 140 yards rushing, and 2-3 in the red zone while holding the football for 11 more minutes (35:39-24:21).

Vic Fangio’s unit melted down

Every defense has a bad outing, and the Eagles pick a bad night to melt down, essentially giving away this wild-card game. Take away the Quinyon Mitchell interceptions, and Philadelphia was gashed by a 49ers offense with no George Kittle and no stars on the outside. Purdy threw for 262 yards and got the road win in Philadelphia, a place he failed to get three seasons ago when he was injured in a dismal outing in a loss in the NFC title game.JauanJennings had 66 yards receiving and 48 rushing in addition to his TD pass. San Francisco outgained Philadelphia despite having ten minutes less time of possession. More importantly, the 49ers were 6-11 on third downs.

With their linebacker corps decimated, Garret Wallow and Eric Kendricks combined for 11 tackles, two tackles for loss, and two passes defended, including the Eagles’ final play.

Quinyon Mitchell is a mentally tough All-Pro

Mitchell could have folded after allowing two big catches on the 49ers’ first drive.

A.J. Brown

Brown chose not to address the media after the loss and had to be intervened by chief security officer Dom DiSandro during a heated exchange with coach Nick Sirianni late in the first half. In frustration, Brown removed his helmet and shouted at Sirianni after the Eagles ended a drive with a punt. Overall, Brown had three catches for 25 yards on seven targets in what could have been his final game in an Eagles uniform. DeVonta Smith led the Eagles with eight catches for 70 yards.

Jake Elliott

The Eagles’ star kicker was 2-2 on field goals, but missed an extra point that, in hindsight, would have put Philadelphia in a position to send the game to overtime.
