Long Beach lowers speed limit on East Railroad Street to improve safety

  • January 12, 2026

LONG BEACH, Miss. (WLOX) – The Long Beach Board of Aldermen voted to reduce the speed limit on East Railroad Street from 40 to 30 miles per hour following complaints from residents.

The change takes effect Jan. 20, making East Railroad Street the latest city road to see a speed limit reduction.

The city previously lowered the speed limit on Jeff Davis Avenue in the downtown area from 25 to 15 miles per hour.

Officers will enforce the new speed limit and ensure drivers are aware of the change, according to the city.

City officials said the speed limit reductions are designed to improve traffic flow and enhance pedestrian safety.
