1 person dead after house fire in Sacramento’s Oak Park neighborhood, firefighter injured
And we’re talking about breaking news out of Sacramento right now where firefighters are responding to *** house fire where at least 1 person has died. It’s happening on 43rd Street west of Stockton Boulevard. Case Are 3’s Melanie Wingo just arrived on scene. She joins us now with what she’s learned so far. Good morning. Good morning. Yes, still *** heavy fire department personnel presence here at this location in the North Oak Park area and as you mentioned, Theo, we’re just off of Stockton Boulevard where it meets with Broadway. And joining us now live is Justin Silvia with Sacramento Fire. And Justin, we now know that this fire that started around 3 o’clockish is *** fatal fire. It is. So once our crews arrived, they had heavy fire conditions coming from. *** building that’s kind of butted up against this house. It’s only maybe *** 10 by 10 room. Our units located heavy fire on arrival. Also power lines coming down on them, making it challenging for crews to get that hose line in there while navigating around this live wire. But once they did get that fire knocked down, they stopped the spread of the fire from going into the house. But once they got that fire knocked down, they did locate *** body inside. So currently we have our fire investigators on scene who are starting their investigation into exactly what took place. Yes, and is there anybody from the main part of this house who was here at the time or who you know may be connected with the side dwelling? We’re still putting those pieces together to see exactly who is here, who called this fire in. But our fire investigators are on scene trying to determine the cause and origin of that main body of fire that was located in that smaller attached living unit, and *** couple of minutes ago we saw personnel from perhaps the power company working on the lines. Those have been de-energized, I take it. They have at this point. We had to notify SMU right away. To send *** crew out so they could de-energize and get those lines out of our way and making sure that our crews could operate safely on the fire ground. All right, and then what can you tell us about the victim of this fire? Is there anything specific, any immediate indicators as to who this person might be? We don’t know any of that yet, but our investigators are going to slowly start to proceed. Into their investigative phase of this fire. All right, thank you so much, Justin Silvia with Sacramento fire. So still work to be done out here at the scene. Probably best to avoid this area if your morning commute takes you in this direction. Theo, I’ll send things back to you now. All right, Melanie, appreciate the coverage. We will continue to follow this breaking news on air and online.
