Students and faculty at California High School in Whittier were put on lockdown Monday after a bomb threat and reports from residents who saw a man with an AR-15 making threats near the school, according to the Citizen app.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department received a call at 2:03 p.m. for a non-specified threat at 9800 Mills Ave., and the County Fire Department said it was called for a bomb threat at the same location at 2:37 p.m.

Officials are on scene and investigating.

One parent, whose child is inside the school, said they told them the school reported that a student claimed to have an assault rifle and that they were going to try to take their and other students’ lives.

The student said there is no current threat. One parent reported that neither the Sheriff’s nor the Fire Department mentioned an assault rifle.
