A pedestrian who was fatally struck by an SUV while crossing a Long Island roadway has now been identified, police announced on Monday, Jan. 12.

The crash happened when a man was crossing W. Park Avenue southbound and was hit by a 2019 blue BMW SUV traveling eastbound, according to the Homicide Squad.

The victim was identified as Thomas Maloney, 79, of Long Beach, police said. He suffered severe trauma and was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a physician.

The SUV was being driven by a 58-year-old man who remained at the scene, investigators said. No other injuries were reported.

The investigation remains ongoing.
