H Mart, a Korean supermarket chain, still plans to open a store in Sacramento.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A grand opening date has not yet been set for H Mart’s Sacramento location, more than two years after the Korean supermarket chain first announced plans to open in the city.
The New Jersey-based grocer announced in June 2023 that it would open a 58,000-square-foot store at 6366 Mack Road. The site was previously home to a Food Source grocery store, which Raley’s closed in March 2020.
Questions about the Sacramento H Mart location began circulating online after signage appeared to be removed from the storefront, prompting some to question whether the store would still open.
H Mart told ABC10 there is no confirmed opening date and no additional information available regarding the Sacramento location’s grand opening.
City officials also said they have not received recent updates from the company on an opening timeline.
Construction on the store began in January 2025, when representatives projected an opening in May or June of that year, city officials previously told ABC10.
In May 2025, the city said H Mart was aiming for an early 2026 opening, a timeline that now looks to be in the spring.
“They are still in process and have not received their final certificate of occupancy,” said Kelli Trapani, a spokesperson for the city of Sacramento. “The last we heard was that they hoped to open in spring 2026.”
When H Mart announced the project in June 2023, the company said the Sacramento location would include a food hall featuring authentic and fusion Asian cuisines, in addition to its grocery offerings.
The closest H Mart locations to Sacramento are in San Francisco and San Jose. According to the company’s website, H Mart has 19 locations across California and plans to open a store in Dublin in the East Bay.
