With early-season momentum on the line, College of the Sequoias’ basketball teams are set to square off against conference co-leader Lemoore College in a pivotal doubleheader Wednesday night, before returning home to host Fresno City on Saturday.
College of the Sequoias’ basketball teams will have early-season showdowns in conference play, Wednesday at Lemoore College.
All four teams from Lemoore and COS have won their first two conference games.
The men’s teams play at 5 p.m. at the Golden Eagle Arena, with the women’s teams playing at 7 o’clock.
Men’s basketball
The Giants are 11-5 overall and ranked 28th in the last state poll, along with a No. 15 Northern California ranking. They are likely to move up in the next poll.
In the conference opener last week against Coalinga, coach Dallas Jensen won his 200th career game. Sequoias has won 26 of its last 28 conference games.
COS will host Fresno City College Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Porter Field House. Going into this week, the Rams were 1-1 in conference play and 6-10 overall.
Women’s basketball
Playing a stiff non-conference schedule prepared the COS women’s team for conference play, as they defeated Taft by 24 points and Reedley by 33 last week. Taft had come into the game 14-2.
Sequoias, now 9-9 overall and winners of 15 conference games in a row, were ranked 17th in the state and ninth in Northern California in the last poll, but are likely to move up in the next one.
Lemoore is 13-5 overall. The Giants will face another conference title contender Saturday when they host Fresno Saturday at 5 p.m. following the men’s game. The Rams were 1-0 in the conference and 11-6 overall entering this week.
