ALAMEDA, Calif. (KGO) — Fire officials are responding to a gas leak in Alameda on Wednesday.

It’s happening at 5th and Pacific. Officials first responded to the scene around 1:30 p.m.

Crews are evacuating the area including students at Island High School and Alameda Child Development Center, located in the same area, according to Alameda Unified High School District.

The gas leak was caused by a third party construction crew, according to PG&E, saying “this incident is a third party dig in.”

PG&E has been notified and is on their way to the scene. PG&E will determine what repairs are needed and how to stop the flow of gas.

There is a shelter in place, but the exact location is unknown at this time.

PG&E is reminding people to call 811 for any digging projects.
