Six people were killed and one person was airlifted to a hospital following a crash involving a pickup truck and a transit bus in Tehama County on Wednesday, according to the California Highway Patrol. Around 10 a.m., officers responded to the crash on Highway 99W south of Gyle Road. CHP officials said the pickup truck, a Toyota Tacoma, was traveling southbound on Highway 99W at an unknown rate of speed when it crossed over the broken yellow centerline and collided head-on with a Tehama County transit bus that was traveling north. Following the crash, CHP said the bus became fully engulfed in flames. The bus driver and four passengers died at the scene. The driver of the Tacoma, the sole occupant of that vehicle, also died at the scene. Officials said one bus passenger was airlifted to Enloe Medical Center with major injuries. Investigators are working to learn the circumstances surrounding the crash. It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved. The Tehama County Board of Supervisors said the collision involved a Tehama Rural Area Express (TRAX) bus, and one of their employees was killed. TRAX is suspending its transit service for the remainder of the day and Thursday due to the crash. “Tehama County extends our deepest condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones affected by this unimaginable loss,” the board of supervisors shared in a news release, in part. “Our thoughts are with all those grieving during this incredibly difficult time, including the dedicated employees of TRAX who are mourning the loss of a valued colleague.”Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact the Red Bluff area CHP office at 530-737-6746.See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel
