FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Fresno County Superintendent of Schools Michele Cantwell-Copher, officially launched her re-election campaign Wednesday afternoon in downtown Fresno.
Cantwell-Copher was first elected in 2018 and re-elected in 2022, becoming the first woman to serve as Fresno County Superintendent of Schools.
During her most recent term, her office oversaw Fresno County’s 34 school districts, and worked with more than 230,000 students across the region.
Her tenure has included navigating pandemic era learning disruptions, expanding student support services and working with districts on school safety, attendance and academic recovery.
Speaking at OnePutt Broadcasting on Fulton Street, Cantwell-Copher was joined by community leaders, elected officials and campaign supporters for a press conference formally kicking off her campaign.
Cantwell-Copher reflected on her work over the past term:
