BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — If you noticed a strange smell wafting through the Bakersfield area Wednesday afternoon, you weren’t alone.

The Bakersfield Fire Department said a leaking regulator at a facility on Rosedale Highway near Fruitvale Avenue was the cause. The regulator was leaking mercaptan which caused the bad smell, but isn’t hazardous, officials said.
