SAN JOSE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – For the third game in a row, the UNLV Lady Rebels had three players score double-digits as the UNLV women’s basketball team defeated San Jose State 78-50 on Wednesday evening at Provident Credit Union Event Center. This marks the second consecutive season the Scarlet & Gray (12-5) have started Mountain West play 7-0.
 
Mariah Elohim drained a season-high 18 points by shooting 6-for-10 from the three-point line. Elohim’s six three-pointers tied her career-high. Destiny Brown was the second-leading scorer with a season-high 15 points and second in rebounds with nine, which included four huge offensive rebounds. Destiny Brown shot 7-for-10 from the field and was a perfect 1-for-1 from the charity stripe. Shelbee Brown picked up her sixth double-double of the season and fourth straight with 12 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. Shelbee Brown was dominant under the board bringing down five offensive boards and eight defensive boards. Shelbee Brown led the squad in steals with a three.
 
San Jose State (2-16, 0-7) was led by Allie Cummins’ 20 points and Gabriela Pato’s 11 points. Maya Anderson brought down a team-high six rebounds, while Carla Fuster was second on the team with five boards, respectively.
 
NEVER LET UP: After exchanging baskets through the first four minutes of play, the Lady Rebels went on an 11-3 scoring run to take a 13-7 with less than three minutes in the first. UNLV closed out the first quarter with a 10-point lead, 19-9. The momentum continued for the Scarlet & Gray as they held the double-digit lead going into the half. Following the break, the Lady Rebels stayed ahead and never looked back.
 
STAT OF THE GAME: The Lady Rebels’ bench scored 51 of the 78 points scored against the Spartans.
 
OTHER NOTES:


Alexis Swillis collected career/season-highs in rebounds (five) and points (three). Additionally, Swillis blocked her first career shot against the Spartans.
Trystan James had her first career start as a Lady Rebel.
Hodaya Kabada drained a career/season-high six points.
Erica Collins dished a career-high two assists.
The Lady Rebels out-rebounded the Spartans 47-30
UNLV forced 20 San Jose State turnovers and scored 21 points off them.
The Scarlet & Gray won the paint battle 26-22.
The Lady Rebels dished 22 assists and were led by Aaliyah Alexander’s four.

UP NEXT: UNLV will be back at The Pavilion to host San Diego State in a first-place Mountain West battle on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 2 p.m. The Lady Rebels and Aztecs are both 7-0 in league play.
