Suspect arrested in California on attempted murder charges after shooting in SE Portland

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – A suspect linked to a shooting in the Mt. Tabor neighborhood was arrested at a gas station in California, according to Portland Police.

Officers responded to a shooting call at around 5 p.m. on December 21 near SE 60th Ave and SE Stark St, but initially did not find the a victim.

After about a half hour, police found a man with gunshot wounds in a parking lot behind an apartment complex in the area. Several guns were also reportedly found at the scene.

PPB says the man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.

Police interviewed several people at the scene following the incident, including 38-year-old Rem Heathen and 43-year-old Jennifer M. Bitgood, who were identified as suspects in the case.

Arrest warrants were later issued for Heathen and Bitgood.

On Thursday, January 8, officers in Mount Shasta, Cali., responded to a report of an unwanted person, later identified as Heathen, at a local gas station at 2:12 a.m.

Heathen was arrested by Mt. Shasta Police on a warrant for the following charges, and transferred to the Multnomah County Detention Center on January 9:

Bitgood was arrested on charges of unlawful use of a weapon and coercion on Saturday, January 10, while outside the Portland ICE facility that night, according to PPB.
