FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — A Fresno city worked who was brutally attacked while on the job last April is continuing to recover, according to his family.
FOX26 requested an interview with 57-year-old Tim Smith, a city electrician badly hurt in an unprovoked attack near downtown Fresno on April 11th, 2025, but his family says he is still recovering and is not able to speak at this time.
They did, however, provide a brief update on his condition.
Tim continues to recover with his family at his side. “As with any traumatic brain injury, there are ups and downs throughout the recovery process. His family remains grateful for the support of the community.
Smith has worked for the City of Fresno since 2006.
City officials say he was supposed to be off the day of the attack but was working overtime when it happened.
According to police, the attacker, 26-year-old Dyllan Padavona, was arrested the following day and booked into the Fresno County Jail.
Investigators say Padavona approached Smith from behind, struck him, and caused him to fall and hit his head on the pavement.
Surveillance video released by the city shows the moments leading up to the attack.
Authorities say Padavona had multiple outstanding warrants at the time, including misdemeanor vandalism and petty theft charges, along with a felony warrant for deterring officers.
