Oakland is weighing the future of the Howard Terminal Stadium project abandoned by the Athletics and whether it should provide entertainment or commerce.
The Oakland Roots Sports Club, of the United Soccer League, is one of two finalists, according to the San Francisco Business Times.
The club’s plan is to build a stadium to house both the Roots and its women’s professional soccer team, Oakland Soul SC.
The initial project would feature a temporary stadium for 15,000 fans, which would eventually be converted into a permanent stadium with a capacity for 25,000 spectators.
The other finalist, the Industrial Realty Group, wants to turn the property into a maritime commercial development.
There is no timeline for a final decision.
