The Angels signed Dominican shortstop Jeyson Horton on Thursday, the first day of the international signing period.
Horton is ranked as the No. 9 overall international prospect by MLB Pipeline, making him the highest ranked of the 14 players the Angels inked on signing day.
Horton reportedly received a bonus of $2 million, which accounts for the largest chunk of their $6.7 million limit.
Horton was initially expected to sign with the New York Yankees before landing with the Angels. He is projected as a speedy, glove-first middle infielder.
The Angels also signed Dominican outfielder Carlos Castillo and Dominican outfielder Anderson Rodriguez. Castillo received $1 million.
Rodriguez is the son of Henry Rodriguez, who spent 11 years in the majors. He is already 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, with a powerful left-handed swing, according to Baseball America.
The highest-rated pitcher the Angels signed was Dominican right-hander Kendri Faña (No. 46).
The Angels also signed right-handers Steuri Amancio (Dominican Republic), Victor De La Cruz (Panama), Anderson Encarnacion (Dominican Republic), Alexander Garcia (Dominican Republic) and Hollis Watson (Colombia); shortstops Juan Cespedes (Dominican Republic), David Manzueta (Dominican Republic) and Wilker Rosales (Venezuela); outfielder Adonafer Reyes (Dominican Republic) and catcher Yonathan Aro (Venezuela).
