BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — As we approach the birthday of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., one local organization is getting ready to celebrate his legacy.

The Annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King jr. Committee Community Awards Breakfast is taking place Monday January 19 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center on South Owens Street.
The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. with check in starting at 8.
Event Organizer Sunni Crawford joined Eyewitness News Mornings to share more details.
The organization is also holding a community luncheon and clothing giveaway on January 19 at the MLK Community Center from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
