SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — It’s been approximately 13 months since Nima Momeni was found guilty of second degree murder in the stabbing death of CashApp Founder Bob Lee, but Momeni still hasn’t been sentenced. The verdict followed an approximately seven-week trial and seven days of deliberations.

Bob Lee’s family is still seeking closure.

“It’s a cruel waiting game, that’s for sure,” said Krista Lee, Bob Lee’s former wife. “That little bit of peace would be very helpful in our healing process for sure.”

On December 17, 2024, a jury found Nima Momeni guilty of 2nd degree murder.

Momeni’s new attorney, Daniel Shriro says he intends to make a motion for a new trial and is going through the trial transcripts detailing all of the reasons why. The problem is, he doesn’t have all the trial transcripts.

In an emailed statement, Shriro wrote in part, “…we cannot go forward with the new trial motion until we have the chance to review all the transcripts. No sentencing can occur while the new trial motion is pending.”

According to Shriro, there were two court reporters during the trial. One has produced a substantial amount of transcripts, but there is also a substantial amount that has not been produced. Shriro says the other has produced nothing so far.

“My understanding is that the court reporter involved in the trial is on leave and so that is what is causing a longer delay to receive that transcript,” said San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins.

Shriro says both court reporters initially said they would have all the transcripts to him by last month.

“We have not received an explanation for the delay, but we are all aware that court reporters have been cut back across the system, and those that are left are all overwhelmed with work,” Shriro wrote.

From Shriro to Momeni and his family, the District Attorney and Bob Lee’s family, everyone shares in the frustration of Momeni’s delayed sentencing.

“It just feels like we’re not getting the like justice that we need by continuously pushing the sentencing back,” said Scout Lee, Bob Lee’s daughter.

“They are entitled to have finality in this case or at least they should be,” said Jenkins. “He’s entitled to file a motion for a new trial or an appeal, but that in no way should in our system stall his ultimate sentencing.”

Jenkins says the case was one of the most media intensive cases her office has ever handled.

“Certainly since I’ve been the DA over the last 3.5 years other than the attack on Paul Pelosi,” said Jenkins.

The details and players were salacious at times. Lee’s daughter says she felt scrutinized and ill prepared to handle the attention.

“I had to go to my school counselor and get a therapist there,” Scout Lee said. “I just thought that it would be amazing if there was like some kind of organization or someone that would help us during that time,” she continued.

It’s for that reason she’s creating a non-profit Beacons of Bereavement. The acronym spelling BOB.

“The main thing that I want to do is fund therapy and mental health support to victims,” she said.

Other ideas include counseling during court dates and graphic testimony as well as anniversary support.

“I love that Scout is doing this, certainly in her father’s honor,” said Jenkins.

In the meantime, the Lee family is hoping for resolution before the third anniversary of his death.

“We would hope that the judge would be able to set a date to set a date. Sentencing needs to happen and hopefully before April 4th of this upcoming year,” said Krista Lee.

The next court date is Friday, January 23, when there may be an update about the court transcripts.
