School district staff discovered a man’s body on a high school campus in San Jose on Thursday morning, officials said.

Staff found the man’s body shortly before 7 a.m. on the Independence High School campus grounds, according to a letter sent to community members in the East Side Union High School District. The man was not a student or employee of the district.

San Jose police and firefighters arrived at the scene, where the man was declared dead. Investigators had not determined the cause of death, according to the letter.

The San Jose Police Department did not immediately reply to requests for more information.

Police told school officials there was no ongoing threat to the school or public. The high school had been closed for fall break since Monday, according to the letter. However, KIPP San Jose Collegiate High School, which is located on the campus, had classes that remained in session Thursday.
