SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — San Francisco’s most famous rabbit has been honored with a new rescue-focused bunny cafe.

The adoptive parents of “Alex the Great” have decided to continue the therapy work of the late Flemish Giant rabbit by opening the cafe as a rescue and adoption center for bunnies from shelters.

The famed bunny who passed away in July 2025 due to complications from cancer treatment was himself rescued from a meat farm before his life as a therapy bunny.

Since his passing, his owners, Josh and Kei, have been on a mission to carry on his legacy and their advocacy for adopting rabbits from shelters.

Firstly, they did this quite literally by adopting another bunny, and naming her Alexis, of course.

In fact, Alexis is already starting to volunteer as a therapy animal at the San Jose airport.

However, just this month, the couple also opened Bunny Cafe San Francisco.

It serves drinks and snacks, and for a fee, visitors can go pet adoptable rabbits in their bunny lounge.

A portion of the proceeds from the lounge goes directly to local rescues.

The cafe held its soft opening on January 1, 2026.
