Re “City needs elected leaders who care about what the public wants” (Jan. 10): For the past two years, I have been driving my granddaughter to school and then continuing on to Balboa Park to walk with my dog. Following our walk, he gets to enjoy playing with friends in the dog park there. This healthy routine, for both of us, was a daily ritual and also an opportunity to truly enjoy our life in San Diego.
Last week, I went up to a newly installed parking kiosk that requested a $10 minimum payment to park. Now I, and many of the friends I’ve made over the past two years — as well as our canine buddies — are no longer welcome. The beautiful landscape is blighted with oversized parking signs; the parking lots tell their own story.
The dog park is now as empty as all the bike lanes. To your health, Mayor Gloria.
