GUIDING THEIR LOVED ONE’S JOURNEY ALONG NORTHGATE BOULEVARD, WHERE CARS RUSHED BY A FAMILY STAND STILL, HONORING A LIFE LOST AND PRAYING FOR ANOTHER TO SURVIVE. IT’S REALLY HARD FOR ME TO TALK ABOUT MY DAUGHTER. ALBERT TIDMAN AND HIS FAMILY BURN SAGE, A NATIVE AMERICAN TRADITION MEANT TO GUIDE A LOVED ONE’S SPIRIT AFTER DEATH. HER NAME IS MARIA AURORA VICTORIA TIMMERMAN. SHE WAS ONLY 29 YEARS OLD. THE MOST BEAUTIFUL, KIND, LOVING SOUL IN THE WORLD. SACRAMENTO POLICE SAY LAST SATURDAY THEY RESPONDED TO A TWO CAR CRASH ALONG NORTHGATE AND EL PASO BOULEVARD. TWO PEOPLE WERE PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. FAMILY MEMBERS IDENTIFIED ONE OF THEM AS 31 YEAR OLD CHRISTIAN GARCIA FLORES, WHO THEY SAY WAS IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH MARIA. THREE OTHERS WERE RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL, ONE OF THEM, 29 YEAR OLD MARIA AURORA VICTORIA TIDMAN, LATER DIED FROM HER INJURIES. I HAVE FOUR DAUGHTERS AND THEY’RE ALL MY HEART AND SOUL, BUT WHEN YOU LOSE ONE, IT’S IT JUST MAN. IT JUST ISN’T FAIR. IT’S NOT RIGHT. SHE DIDN’T DESERVE TO DIE THAT WAY. ALBERT SAYS MARIA’S LIFE WAS JUST BEGINNING A NEW CHAPTER. SHE WAS STARTING A JOB THE NEXT DAY, AND WORKING IN A ELDER NURSING FACILITY. INDEPENDENT LIVING. SHE NEEDED SCRUBS, AND SO THEY WERE ON THEIR WAY TO BUY SCRUBS. THE CRASH ALSO LEFT TWO OTHERS HOSPITALIZED. ONE OF THEM, MARIA’S MOTHER ANGELA TIDMAN, REMAINS IN CRITICAL CONDITION. MY FAMILY IS DEVASTATED. MY WIFE IS IN CRITICAL CARE. SHE’S GOT LIFE THREATENING INJURIES RIGHT NOW AS A FAMILY PRAYS FOR ANGELA’S RECOVERY. My wife is in critical care. She’s got life-threatening injuries right now,” Albert Titman said. As the family prays for Angela’s recovery, they continue a Native American ritual to guide the spirits of Maria and Christian home. “In our Native American way, when someone crosses over, we keep a fire for the first four days of when they travel, we send their spirit on in a good way. For the last four days, since last weekend, we’ve been praying every day. The community has come out. I love our Native community,” Albert Titman said. While the family holds on to hope, Sacramento police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
